GOV.UK lists installing a bathroom that involves plumbing, and changing electrics near a bath or shower, among the jobs that need building regulations approval, and without approval you will not have the certificates of compliance you may need when you sell your home. The Planning Portal counts alterations to existing circuits in the spaces around baths and showers as notifiable electrical work, along with any new circuit or consumer unit, and says an installer registered with a competent person scheme can self-certify it; otherwise building control inspects and approves the work.

Nottingham City Council says you do not need approval yourself for electrical work or gas installations carried out by a competent person.
